Online Discussion with Emily Dickinson Society (6 June 2026)

On 6 June 2026, 10:00–11:30am (Eastern Time), the Ralph Waldo Emerson Society and the Emily Dickinson International Society will co-host an online discussion that will place these two writers into dialogue.

During the session we will discuss Emerson’s “The Poet” (1844) alongside the following Dickinson poems: “This was a Poet -” (F446, M 224) “The Martyr Poets – did not tell -” (Fr665, M 315), “The Poets light but Lamps -” (Fr930, M 436) and “Shall I take thee, the poet said” (Fr1243, M 557). Please read the material in advance and join us for an informal conversation about these writers and their ideas about the poet and the poetic imagination.

For an introduction to the topic, please see the material on Dickinson, Thoreau and Emerson written by Ivy Schweitzer on White Heat — Emily Dickinson in 1892: A Weekly Blog. by our own Ivy Schweitzer.
